Ozone Treatment for Cars: Frequently Asked Questions

Ozone Treatment Frequently asked questions

What is Ozone Treatment

Have you ever wondered how to get rid of that smell in your car? Have you just lived with any unpleasant smells in your car because nothing you've tried at home has gotten rid of it? If your car has any bad smells that you can't get rid of, chances are they are coming from sources that aren't visible to you such as from inside your car's vents, in or under the seats and upholstery, and inside any of the nooks and crannies of your car that you just can't see. These areas of the car can harbour bacteria, viruses and unwanted chemicals which can cause bad odours in your car. One of the only effective ways of getting rid of these odours is through the use of an Ozone Treatment. An Ozone Treatment uses Ozone gas to kill unwanted bacteria. It does this because Ozone - O3 - is an unstable molecule that destroys any molecule it comes in contact with through oxidation, effectively sterilising it.

How much does it cost?

The cost of Ozone Treatment will entirely depend on the size of your car and the severity of its odour problem. If you have a larger car with a bad smell problem, the treatment will take longer causing the cost to be higher. If you are interested in having the Ozone Treatment done for your vehicle, do not hesitate to get in contact with one of our mechanics at Expresso Car Wash in Southport or Harbour Town to book a consultation.

Will it damage my car interior?

Ozone Treatment will cause zero damage to you car. As Ozone is a gas, it will be able to seep into all the nooks and crannies of your car and eliminate any smells and bacteria without the need for anything to be touched or moved. A generator is placed into your car that creates Ozone which is then circulated in your car and left to do its thing. What you do need to worry about, however, is whether the source of the smell is something easily reached and removed. Any residues in hard to reach places will need to be removed before the treatment begins to ensure its effectiveness. This may be done as one of our other car detailing services. If you have a problem with mould and mildew causing bad odours in your car, this issue will also need to be resolved in order for the Ozone Treatment to be completely effective.

Does it remove Smoke Smells?

Ozone treatment is one of the few ways to completely get rid of smoke smells. It will oxidise and tar and chemicals that have adhered to your cars surfaces causing the bad smoke smells. This oxidisation will neutralise any of these smoke smells in your car leaving your car smelling fresh without the use of fragrance to just mask any bad smells.

How long does the treatment take?

The time the Ozone treatment takes will completely depend on the size of your car and the severity of the problem. It is essential that the source of the smell is completely removed before the Ozone treatment begins. This ensures that any odours neutralised through the treatment does not come back. After the source of the smell has been removed, that is when the Ozone treatment can begin. If there is a smell that isn't too severe and hasn't been there for too long and the source of the smell has already been removed, the treatment may only take and hour or two. If your car has had a smell problem for a substantial amount of time and the source is still present in the car, the treatment may take much longer.
